Here is your ultimate Whole30 Costco shopping guide! I did my first Whole30 back in January of this year and one thing I spent a lot of time doing was researching Whole30 compliant items at all my favorite stores. I have my basic Whole30 essentials and favorite Whole30 Sprouts items, that I continue to use all the time but I am always on the lookout for more fun stuff to add to that list. During a recent trip to Costco, I thought it would be a good idea to take some pictures and show you guys my favorite Whole30 Costco finds! I looked a little crazy taking pictures all over Costco but hey, it was for a good cause. Don't say I never gave you nothin'! 😉
Obviously, all Costco's vary and item selection is based on your local store. I say this because I have spent many a "fun" afternoon running all over San Diego to scope out some of my favorites from different Costco stores because I saw someone else's Costco had it. So my favorite Whole30 Costco items may be different than what's at your local store.
PROTEINS
Of course Costco carries tons of fresh proteins including fish, chicken and grass-fed beef. I did not include those in this post because naturally, most anything that is meat only will be Whole30 compliant. I wanted to include the convenient packaged options for the purposes of this post.
Aidell's Chicken & Apple Sausage: I use these CONSTANTLY! They are always in my fridge for a quick protein rich snack or an easy addition to my breakfasts.
Smoked Pulled Pork: While I try to buy as much fresh meats as possible, it is so helpful to have this on hand for those busy days. The ingredients are all compliant and it's super tasty.
Teton Waters Uncured Beef Franks: Again, just a nice quick and easy compliant option to have on hand. I like to add these to my Sausage and Sprouts sheet pan meal.
Wild Planet Albacore Tuna: I love that Costco carries this brand of sustainably caught tuna!
Grass-Fed Beef Patties: Compliant burger patties that you can whip up in a lettuce wrap or with veggies
Tender Belly Dry Rub Uncured Bacon: Compliant bacon can be hard to find. This is a great option
Organic Grass Fed Rib-Eye: I found these guys in the freezer section and I was so excited! Healthy grass fed steaks at the ready. This was $39.99 which makes each portion about $6.60 or so. A pretty good deal if ya ask me!
Del Real Adobo Marinated Pork: I am always jazzed to find ready made protein sources. These come in SO handy when I can't manage a full meal prep or I only have a few minutes to throw things together for dinner. They also have a Barbacoa option that is Whole30 compliant! Add these to my spicy taco skillet in place of ground beef! So good!
Sabatino's Paleo Organic Smoked Sausage: These are an awesome ready made protein to have on hand!
Tru Grill Grilled Chicken Strips: These are a lazy girls dream! I buy one every single time I got to Costco and make sure it's always on hand because it's the easiest thing to throw onto a skillet or in the microwave when I am starving but don't want to cook. I highly recommend these! I use them to whip up quick Greek meal prep bowls!
Safe catch Yellowfin Tuna Steaks: Another great protein option.
I get all my eggs at Costco. My favorite brand at Costco is Chino Valley Ranchers cage free brown eggs. I also often buy the pre-made organic hardboiled eggs because they make great pre-workout snacks and they're an awesome source of protein. Also, I am just super lazy and don't want to boil and peel my own. 🙂
PRODUCE
As with all the fresh proteins, Costco carries tons of fruits and veggies in bulk and I often buy mine here. Especially organic berries because the price is great for such a large quantity. Since we know basic fruits and veggies will generally be compliant, here are some of the convenience items I love.
I don't know about you but I always choose to buy pre-riced cauliflower over making my own. It's just so convenient and during my busy meal prep days, I am all about convenience. Costco carries both the fresh riced cauliflower (shown in the bottom picture) and the frozen version so you can stock up and use as needed. They also carry chopped sweet potatoes and butternut squash when it's in season which is another time saver for me.
The ones from Earthly Choice are especially amazing because you just stick them in the microwave for 60 seconds and each little packet has 2 servings. Super convenient!
I use riced cauliflower in my buffalo chicken casserole and stuffed pepper soup.
They also carry a ton of organic frozen fruits and veggies as well as pre-cut fruits like apple slices, mangoes and pineapple.
These frozen options for vegetables are other great choices!
SNACKS & PANTRY ITEMS
These guys are all Whole30 compliant HOWEVER, enjoy with caution. That bag of dried mangoes has 24 servings in it and I think the hubby and I polished it off in about a week. Actually more like 5-6 days. Dried fruit is allowed on Whole30 but again, it's something to limit because at the end of the day sugar is sugar and your body feels like it's sugar craving is satisfied even if you choose dried mango over ice cream. But if you're not using these simply to satisfy a sugar craving, these are a super tasty option to have on hand when you're on the go.
Nuts are another great snack option. Costco has a wide variety of walnuts, almonds and pecans that are all compliant and most are organic as well.
Blanched Almond Flour: I like using almond flour in place of all purpose flour when air frying chicken (like in this recipe, just skip the panko in favor of nut crumbs for Whole30! 😉 )
Navitas Cacao Powder: The cacao powder is great to add to energy bites for a little of that chocolate flavor without the sugar. It's also a nice addition to plain black coffee for a flavor boost.
Nutiva Hempseed: I like these for an added source of healthy fats to throw on salads for some texture.
Almond Butter: I mean, need I say more?
Thai Kitchen Coconut Milk: Coconut milk is a Whole30er's best friend. During my Whole30 I often used coconut milk in my coffee or in recipes in place of cream like in this Cilantro Lime Skillet Chicken. More often than not, I don't even taste the coconut flavor in recipes so it works perfectly.
Pacific Foods Bone Broth: I am a huge fan of bone broth. I like it in soups, when making chicken in a slow cooker or instant pot and especially for sipping. I usually add a hardboiled egg, seasonings and half an avocado for the perfect filling snack. Not to mention all the benefits of bone broth but I'll save that for another post. I use this broth in my Zuppa Toscana recipe.
Canned Tomatoes: Some canned tomato products contain sneaky sugars. Fortunately, these organic versions of tomato paste, tomato sauce and diced tomatoes are all Whole30 compliant.
Plum Organics Fruit and Veggie Blend: While this won't be a super filling snack, they are definitely a convenient compliant choice to have around for emergency on the go situations.
Organic Seaweed: I am OBSESSED with these. They are such a tasty little snack and I love wrapping up a little tuna inside for my own Whole30 compliant lazy girl sushi hack 🙂 They do contain sunflower oil which while technically compliant, is still something to try and limit.
CONDIMENTS
Victoria's Marinara: One of my FAVE marinara sauces, Whole30 or not. Just good clean ingredients and such a high quality taste!
Mateo's Gourmet Salsa: Love this salsa and there is no added sugar so it is A-OK for Whole30.
Cholula Hot Sauce: I keep one of these on hand at home and at work. I love adding it to frittatas, burrito bowls, taco casseroles - you name it!
French's Mustard: So I kept finding mustard with sugar in it and for some reason it never even occurred to me to check such a mainstream brand like French's. Lo and behold - totally compliant!
Big Tree Coconut Aminos: I go through coconut aminos like water. They're perfect for any type of Asian inspired dish and I use them often for sesame chicken and veggies or cauliflower "fried" rice.
Coconut Oil: So many uses for coconut oil! Might as well grab a giant tub eh?
Chosen Foods Avocado Oil: I use this almost every single time I cook.
Balsamic Vinegar: I love adding this to brussel sprouts or salads.
Compliant Ghee, Italian seasoning, mayo and hot sauce
Wildbrine Sauerkraut: So I myself am not the biggest fan of sauerkraut in general but if you are, this one is totally compliant. My friend loves adding it to compliant sausages!
Wholly Guacamole: These are so handy to have on hand for burrito bowls or for dipping in some veggies with your lunch.
hak's Salad Dressing: This package of compliant olive oil and lemon salad dressing is $9.99 and it's perfect to toss in your purse for a compliant dressing option on the go!
Chosen Foods Avocado Oil Spray: I use this stuff constantly when roasting vegetables. It's a necessity in my house.
Tin Star Ghee: A giant tub of ghee is a Whole30 dream! I love using ghee for so many things. I use it for potatoes, to fry up eggs and in my chorizo hash brown bake.
Red Boat Fish Sauce: This sauce is Whole30 compliant and great for your favorite Asian inspired dishes and sauces
DRINKS
La Croix - One of my favorite brands of sparkling water is available at Costco. Sometimes when I'm lucky, I find the other variety pack that has my favorite flavor - coconut.
San Pellegrino - This is just your basic sparkling water but it tastes so good! This brand is normally pretty expensive but buying it in bulk at Costco makes it much more affordable.
Vita Coco Coconut Water- This brand of coconut water is totally compliant. Be careful though, because the Kirkland version that is usually placed right next to it contains sugar so steer clear of that one.
Lucky Jack Nitro Cold Brew: This cold brew coffee is AMAZING. It's a nitro so the taste is very smooth and I can drink it black without feeling like I'm downing jet fuel.
Other
Main Street Roasted Potatoes: These potatoes are super clean, super easy and super tasty. You just stick them in the oven for 20 minutes and BAM - potatoes for the week. They can be pretty salty though so just something to be aware of if you are sensitive to that.
I hope this list of Whole30 Costco finds is helpful! I will continue to update it as more and more items become available. Happy Whole30!
