In today’s podcast episode of A Little Salty, hosts Jen and Bailey discuss the topic of body positivity as a continuation of their discussion in the previous episode about body image. Today they go into detail about their thoughts and opinions on what it means to be body positive, and how outside factors such as social media and our peers can play a role in how we feel about our own bodies.
They talk discuss some of the challenges that come with the body positive movement, along with some of the benefits that have come from it as well. The hosts dive into how the ideology of body positivity is great because it promotes inclusivity around weight and acceptance of others and yourself when bodies look different from our neighbors, but how it can become problematic when it pits women against each other because of the non-bending dogma forcing you to essentially pick a side. Other topics include social media, health at any size, and the ideals of “thinness”.
